Nibble of Bread : Hope

November 5, 2012

Job 27:8

For what hope do the godless have when God cuts them off and takes away their life?

There is a part in the movie Hunger Games where one of the leaders was talking about the game, and how it is designed. I remember he said something about Hope, being a strong motivational factor for the people. It’s what drives them. That comment really had me thinking. Then I came across this verse and God began speaking to my heart even more.

No matter who you are Hope can truly be a healthy focal point. We all should have hope in something. The catch is, what is the end result of your hope? There is a famous saying I’m sure many of us have heard: “Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime”. To me that represents Hope in something worldly, verses Hope in the ONLY eternal Savior (John 14:6), Jesus Christ.

When we put our hope into something of this world it will die when the people involved die, no matter how good or how noble that cause may be. Hope in Jesus Christ never dies, because Jesus conquered death, He rose from the grave! He is the hope that lives on for the rest of eternity, touching lives in this life and the next.

Well said brother K!!! Hope in anything but Jesus Christ is not hope at all for it will eventually fail one day. But hope in Christ will never fail as Jesus conquered death, rose from the dead, and is now sitting at the right hand of God. Hope without Jesus Christ is hopeless. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1: 3-5). I love these verses in 1 Peter b/c I think it sums up perfectly our hope in Jesus Christ.
