Job 11,12:

11 – Some friend Zophar is. He is resorting to the Old Testament mindset that if you are being punished by God, you are in sin. Zophar was blaming Job of being self-righteous since he would not confess and repent of the sin’s that brought these trials upon him. But nowhere in the Bible does it tell us that trials will never come our way.

12:10 This is an amazingly powerful verse.

Acts 15:

8-9 – God knows and seeks the heart. We must align ourselves with the Word of God, and not allow worldly judgements and stereotypes to conflict or distract us.

11- See note 16:30-31

20,29 – These requirements were strong Jewish beliefs, customs and laws. My Study Bible said that these things were brought to the forefront with the Gentiles because these things were offensive to the Jews. This allows christians to show their maturity, by abstaining from things that may be offensive or wrong to other christians. We are to live in peace and harmony and not split hairs over non-doctrinal beliefs, but rather love each other through our differences. As long as the Word of God in never compromised.

36-41 – It is impossible to always get along with people forever. But we must be obedient to the Holy Spirit, not allowing our emotions or misconceptions to take over. We must trust that sometimes God will lead us in different directions than our brothers. We must not grow bitter or hostile, but rather accept in grace and peace, allowing God’s perfect will to take control.

Acts 16:

6-10 – We must learn to be in-tuned with the Holy Spirit. For these men or any missionaries it is even more important because life or death may depend upon it. But just being in-tuned will not be enough, the second step to growing closer to the Spirit is obedience.

18 – There is power in the name of JESUS!

18-24 – These men were punished for serving God. This punishment was very brutal, violent and cruel. The dungeon had to have been a dark, cold, wet, nasty place. The text does it little justice. But through it all they never complained against God but rather found the peace and strength that is only found in Jesus Christ alone.

30-31 – This is one of the many verses in the New Testament that say belief in Jesus will save you and bring you eternal life. Very True. But! If belief in Jesus saves, Is our belief equal to the belief of Paul and Silas? If these men were to look into our life and walk, would our belief be evident and similar to theirs? What many christians view as belief in Jesus today, is very different from the belief that the Word of God is actually talking about. Belief in Jesus today is: I believe, when it is convenient. Belief in Jesus in the Word is: I believe no matter what the consequence.
