Nehemiah 9:

17-18 – Our God is the Great I AM! Praise God in the highest for these characteristics that He shows to us daily!

Most of this chapter shows the rise and fall of the people’s blessings and curses. But primarily in verses 26-28, the behaviors are singled out. How many times in our lives when things are going good and we are at peace do we forget about God? Maybe not completely but He definitely gets booted out of the driver seat. Then when things go bad, because we are not living in His grace, so we make stupid decisions and make major mistakes then we go running to Him, again. As God is faithful, we must remain faithful. In all things we must give thanks. We must Praise Him with all that we have, and make Him the center of our lives that can never be replaced.

Nehemiah 10:

I love the commitment of the people. They were not scared to make  a bonding commitment. How rare is this today among our walk with the Lord, and in the world around us? Nobody wants to commit to anything serious, but yet we want all the benefits. We need to get to the place these guys were at, realizing that nothing else matters but putting God first!

Verse 30 is a strong verse that we should still enforce amongst our children. We love the lost with all our heart, and we are here to reach the lost; but the ungodly as a spouse for our kids will draw our children away from the rich relationship they could attain with a Godly spouse. I’ve always preached this to my oldest daughter and the other night we were talking about it again because of this boy she likes. My teachings basically seem to be sitting on deaf ears, my heart was in a knot. I desire my kids to be so much better and stronger in their walks with God then I could ever dream of, so it terrifies me to think of my daughter having a spouse that will not make her a better woman of God. But I just sat down and prayed right after. God as He always does when we seek Him, gave me the peace that passes all understanding. And gently whispered for me to not worry, that He is in control. Even if she does make decisions that I don’t agree with. I just have to do my duty of giving her the full education of God, then it is truly in God’s hands.

Acts 2:

Verses 1-13 must have been a simply amazing experience. The Holy Spirit’s grand entrance! It really is a mystery how God holds back from showing us things like this. It really forces those who truly hunger and thirst for Him to seek Him, and the rest will float in and out of commitment with Him, or just give up on the unseen. We must constantly pray for God to help us grow closer to Him, and also to create a fire in our hearts and souls for Him daily.

Peter’s teaching to the crowd was awesome. Obviously filled with the Holy Spirit enabled Peter to be filled with power and authority. But what truly separates Peter is His teaching through scripture. When God is moving, just reading, speaking and yelling the Word of God has double-edged sword impacts. As the scripture says, “Peter’s words pierced their hearts”; why? Because the Word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword, dividing between joints and marrow, soul and spirit and judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12)!! I would love to see 3,000 people come to Christ in one meeting!

42-47 – is the foundation, and structure of building an effective church. Obviously these types of actions work best amongst small groups within a big group but the actions therein are critical to growth. My study Bible gave a list of seven things that are characteristics of  the Spirit-filled church:

  • Apostles Teaching – a Word centered church
  • Fellowship – develop not only vertical relationship with God, but horizontal relationships of true love
  • Breaking of Bread – meals in love and sharing
  • Prayer – much prayer leads to much Holy Spirit activity
  • Miraculous Signs and Wonders – mostly with conversion of the believers in the church of acts
  • Sharing Community – this church experienced something very few people have
  • Making Disciples – their love and righteousness for each other, and for God was irresistable
