Nibble of Bread : Salvation by Baptism

October 9, 2012

Mark 16:16

He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Refer to Salvation by Mouth.

This verse tells us that baptism is a part of being saved. Does this mean without it you are not saved? Honestly, I don’t know. But why argue it, clearly it is a major component, and should be regarded as such. God’s ways are mysterious, and so is the Bible. Thats why we can have two christians that completely disagree on something, even though they read the same Bible, and have the same God. Which we need to work on as a church. What we need to do is focus on the heart of our brothers.

So far we have covered two verses about salvation, although they have different points, the main theme is belief in Jesus Christ. John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Jesus. His main message to the people was to repent of their sins, and turn to God for the Kingdom of Heaven is near (Matthew 3:2). Then John would baptize them after they confessed their sins. John the Baptist was trying to get people’s hearts right for Jesus. Baptism is to show that individuals have actually repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven (Mark 1:4).

So, what we know so far is that we need to first believe. Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that God raised Him from the dead. We then need to confess that with our mouth, and as John preached confess of our sins, the Bible says if we confess Him before men, Jesus will confess us before the Angels of God (Luke 12:8). We then need to be baptized, which would show not only the above steps, but our repentance of sins, and the change in our hearts that we have turned to God as the supreme Lord of our lives.
