Nibble of Bread : Revenge

Revenge

Romans 12:19-21

19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,”t
says the LORD.

20 Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”t

21 Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

I was just sharing this verse with a brother this morning and God put it on my heart to share this because we all face this challenge, and this is a difficult one to overcome for many of us.

But when someone does us wrong, how do we react? The Bible says that without Christ in our lives we are slaves to sin. So our reaction will be based out of our sinful nature, fits of rage, cursing, yelling and who knows what else. But, there are so many reasons why God tells us to act in the way of the scripture above. A couple of them lead into our faith. When we turn to God for strength, control, and peace rather than lashing out; we are building our relationship with Him. We are learning to lean on Him rather than our own understanding. Then when He fills us with His Peace we will act in a way that is pleasing to Him. Many times I feel our pride is the biggest reason we may act out. As men we can’t let others see us back down, or not do nothing. But when Jesus was crucified He showed us the ultimate example of how to react when other do you wrong unjustly. It takes a lot of practice, it is not easy and yes we will stumble. But by the saving Grace and Power of Jesus Christ we can allow Him to transform, or renew our minds so that we don’t see things as slaves to sin, but rather slaves to righteousness. We must seek God for help, and continually ask Him to renew our minds, and hearts. Then, maybe when someone damages our car, or anything that leads us to anger , we act in love rather than rage; planting a seed in that person that may have eternal rewards.
