Nibble of Bread : Acts 2:42-47

September 30, 2012

Acts 2:42-47

42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, and to fellowship,…43 A deep sense of awe came over them all,…44 And all the believers met together in one place…46 They worshipped together at the Temple each day, …47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people, And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

As I have mentioned many times over we were created in the image of God, and God desires intimate fellowship with us, which means we also need intimate fellowship with others, whether we like to admit it or not.

The book of Acts is a powerful book of how the early christian church began growing and living out the Word and commands of God. There are many reasons why this church was so effective in not just spreading the gospel, but truly living it. But the reason I want to bring into the spotlight of why they were successful, is the actual fellowship, gathering or meeting of this church. Going to church today has taken on all types of negative attention. For one, our lives are all so busy wrapped up in trying to maintain life, work, kids, sports and everything else. Satan has done a damn good job of keeping us B.U.S.Y (burdened under satans yoke). Busyness can lead us into having so many excuses why we don’t spend time with God, go to church or just seek God more than we seek our own comfort.

The church of Acts had an amazing equation for spiritual success, if we could just strive for one factor in their equation we all would see tremendous growth around us. That factor is fellowship. We all need more fellowship, as the saying goes: you are what you hang around with. We need to get plugged in with people who are going to help us grow closer to God and develop a deeper relationship with Him. Its going to take effort, sacrifice and work. But the rewards are far greater than anything worldly that we already chase. Lets all find ways to get more plugged in with other believers. Let go of your selfish desires, insecurities or anything that is holding you back from getting involved. God has a plan far bigger, and far better, than anything you could desire for your own life.

This verse goes perfectly with the Bible studies you are going to be doing brother K. Fellowship with other believers is an important aspect of our faith in Christ. Wherever 2 or more believers are there Christ will be also. Although Jesus is always with us wherever we go, it’s comforting to know that he sits among us in church, or Bible studies or just when we get together as believers.

    • Thanks brother, it does. Im really praying for God to strengthen these men, and give them a raging fire and passion for the Lord!
