Nibble of Bread : 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Prayer = Intimacy

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing.

I often wondered what is the point of prayer. If God knows all things, especially the things on our hearts; why would we need to communicate this in prayer? I pondered these things for a certain time period. But by the grace of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit I was enlightened. Let me try to explain. The biggest difference between Christianity and any other religion is the personal relationship with God. Many people are blinded to this fact, but God desires a personal, and intimate relationship with every single one of us (made possible through Jesus Christ).

Well since we are social creatures, and we were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) that would make Him the supreme social being. In relationships we communicate and spend time with each other, right? Well the same is with God and prayer. The more time we spend praying the more talking we are doing with Him. But it’s not just about formal, verbal prayer. It’s about the thoughts and prayers on our hearts. Or the meditation of His Word that really stood out to us in our morning devotion. We also should learn to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10), allowing Him to speak into our lives.

The more we learn to sit, think, listen and speak the things of God (praying) the closer we will be able to grow to our Heavenly Father. It takes a lot of practice and work, like any relationship. God is not only deserving of this honor, but He truly desires it from us.

    Well said brother K. When I read this chapter I was blown away by how much good stuff was in there. Although I’ve probably read it a hundred times in my life, each time I read it something new pops out (funny how that works). Thanks be to Jesus Christ our Saviour who through his death on the cross for our sins we now have acces to and direct comminication with God through prayer. Many times we think that prayer has to be this formal, long winded, sit down, close your eyes prayer, and although there’s nothing wrong with this and it’s good to spend time in prayer alone with God, prayer can take place anywhere and at anytime. In the car, at work, at school, in between football plays (like I used to do praying for safety). Prayer can take place anywhere and we should all strive to be in constant communication with God through prayer.

    • I love how the Living Word of God has that ability! Prayer is so awesome, I have really been trying to make it more of a priority in my day. I have been seeing God move through them, and realizing more and more the importance and need for it. May God also Bless you with a passion and fire to be a Bold prayer Warrior my friend!
