Nibble of Bread : Luke 6:12

September 26, 2012

Pray More!

Luke 6:12

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

‘He’, in this verse is Jesus. Our society and our christian culture has diluted the power of Jesus, and the power of His time here on earth. We, christians and non-christians alike have all become ‘fans’ of Jesus. But how many of us actually follow Him? In other words, if our life is a car where does He sit in your car? For many of us believers He is definitely in the car, but maybe in the trunk, so we can just pull Him out when we need um. Or maybe He’s in the backseat, and like a kid that begins talking to much we tell um be quiet and turn the radio up. Or, is He in the passenger seat. Navigating us through…almost everything, but we still got control of the main things.

Well I’m here to say, Jesus needs to be driving. One of the many reasons we have His story available in the Bible for us to read about is so we emulate Him. The verse above says Jesus prayed to God all night. Jesus is the Son of God, you would think if anyone gets the free pass, would be Him. Again, for many reasons He shows us how we need to be. We need to make prayer a bigger priority in our lives. We all have so much that we alone could pray for, like our family, friends, nation and the world. Make goals for yourself, whatever works for you; if it’s alarm reminders on your phone, notes in your planner, post it notes on your desk. Whatever works for you, find a way to make God a priority and a constant in your life through prayer. Build that relationship with our Heavenly Father!

Well said brother K. I like the car analogy. I’m definately guilty of putting Christ in the backseat at times. You’re right, He needs to be driving the car and our lives. Who better to guide us then the One who created us. I could only imagine the prayer Christ gave to God that lasted all night. I have trouble staying awake at night when I say my prayers and sometimes I even fall asleep in mid prayer (pretty pathetic I know). Jesus prayed all night to God. WOW!!! What a perfect example to follow. Prayer is a very, very powerful tool. To Christ be the glory!!!!

    • Yeah I just heard that recently from a Pastor, very easy for us all to relate to that one. Defintely something that need to be on our hearts and prayers (before we fall asleep =)) that we will allow Jesus to be in full control of our lives! Then we can truly give Him all the glory for everything He does in our lives. God Bless brother Mike
