Jeremiah 37,38,39:

These chapters were interesting. Jeremiah was faithful to God, and in true form to those that stand up for righteousness, persecution is to come. The world hated Christ, so they will also hate those that stand up for God and His truth’s. But Jeremiah stayed faithful, even though he was repeatedly wronged and forced into miserable, life threatening conditions. However in 39:11-14 God displays His area of safe refuge for those that remain faithful to Him. Jeremiah found favor with the King that just destroyed his people and city. That doesn’t just happen on its own, God influenced the King’s heart to protect and care for God’s faithful “weeping” prophet.

Psalm 79:

This Psalm is pleading with God for deliverance. After the Babylonians came to kill, capture and destroy God’s people they are desperate for God to deliver. Very understanding prayer, but for me the kicker was verse 13. Not only was the intent of deliverance so God’s name would not be shamed (according to human understanding), but also so that the miracle of deliverance could be taught to the next generation. So that not only do we live our lives for the Lord, but our children are taught and raised amongst the miracles and saving power of the Lord God Almighty!

2 John 1:

Verse 1 is speaking to a church and its members, but including to all that believe in the truth. Which is the case for the entire Bible. Although certain passages are spoken to certain people, if we understand God loves us all the same we can reason that we are also spoken to in the scriptures. I love verse 2, once we have truth and it is fully alive and living in us it will be with us forever.

Verse 3 was awesome, I know as I’m sure many of you also, people who truly have no peace in their lives. They may appear to have it, but within the chambers of their heart and soul it is empty. This is obvious in many by the pursuits of destructive behavior, seeking for something to fill that void. But by the Grace and Mercy that comes from God the Father and God the Son only we can find this in abundance which brings peace. As the Word also says, peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7)!

Love and deception are the next two points that close out the chapter. Straight forward reading, but what sticks out to me is how much we have read about these two topics over the last few weeks. These two areas of the christian walk are very important, and are always under the most attack. The more something is mentioned, usually refers to the importance of that subject. That is definitely the case here, love must be a priority in our hearts, and awareness to deception. Also called discernment.
