Slice of Bread : 1 John 2

August 21, 2012

1 John 2

Loved this Chapter!!

Verse 1, so powerful. We are wrongly taught and influenced to believe that we may always struggle with our sin. True to a certain point, and that’s the problem. This truth has been stretched to make us lazy in our spiritual battles. Instead of fighting for purity and blamelessness, we surrender and say I’m not perfect, and God still loves me, and thank you for God’s grace. Those sayings are supposed to be for fighters, not pushovers!

3-6 – Awesome! We all need to be more obedient to God’s Word. Not just the easy parts but the hard parts as well. Our love is shown by our obedience, the more we love the more we want to obey. It’s not a bummer to obey, as David wrote in one of the psalms, I delight in obeying your commands. I love that, we all need that type of heart.

9 – we gotta love. this is a tough one. Something that has helped me was pointed out in a sermon, God created us all in His likeness. Which means he really created us to love everyone. The devil comes in and tries to interrupt that with irritations and hates. We must recognize that our battle needs to be up and down (spiritual battle), not side to side with our fellow brothers.

15-17 – Heavy, heavy. This has been my goal in my household. To teach my family to be more aware of the sin that so easily entangles us (Hebrews 12:1). The world has us all tricked, look at verse 16, pride in our achievements? Ever heard that before, from others or out of your own mouth? It is not from the Father!

24 – Remain Faithful. Key words I got from this verse. Trials are coming, remain faithful!

28-29 – This is so key, fellowship and righteousness are essential to being excited and full of pure joy and courage for our meeting with Jesus Christ!

wow!!! This chapter had a lot of good stuff in it. I love versus 1 and 2 and how it says that if we sin, which we all do, we have Jesus as our advocate before the Father. Before Christ died for our sins, we only had access to God through sacrifices and through the High Priest. Now, there’s no need for sacrifices b/c Jesus was the ultimate, perfect sacrifice and now through Him we have direct access to God.

Versus 3 – 11 talks about how we know if we are in Christ. The evidence is if we walk in His Commandments. I pray we all don’t be hypocrites and say we are believers in Christ and yet live our lives in contradiction to His commandments. Let’s all walk in the light and not in darkness.

Versus 15 – 17 talks about how although we live in this World we are not of this World as our home is in heaven with Jesus Christ our Lord. This world will entangle and entrap you and won’t let go. We’ve all experienced it. But thanks be to God that he saved us from our sins and this World that is fading away and has prepared a place for us in heaven.

Versus 18 – 23 is pretty clear. He who denies that Jesus is the Christ is a liar and the Antichrist.

Versus 24 – 29. The theme in these versus is to abide in Christ. When we abide in Him the Holy Spirit teaches and guides us and the truth is in us. When we don’t abide in Christ, all hell breaks lose (literally) and the Devil will do anything to keep us from God.

    Great chapter. Stay strong brothers.

    • Beautiful Mike! Thanks for sharing all that, enjoyed reading it! I love that you have a little bit different take on things, but yet through the power of the Holy Spirit we are still in-line with the Word together!

Be careful though, you seemed to enjoy all that writing. You might want your own blog soon!

      Love you brotha!
