Nibble of Bead : John 4:30 & 40

Zeal for Christ!

John 4:30 & 40

30 So the people came streaming from the village to see him…40 When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days,…

As I read this chapter this morning I was really inspired, touched and moved by the zeal of these people. Dictionary.com gave this definition for zeal: fervor for a person, cause, or object; eager desire or endeavor; enthusiastic diligence; ardor. In my pursuit of sharing the Love of Jesus with others I notice the opposite of this type of zeal for Christ. I see people who are very comfortable in their ways and really have no need or desire to seek God. It saddens me, because I know how good God is, especially when you put Him first in your life. The zeal of these Samaritans led to them not only meeting the Messiah and Savior of this world face to face. But led them to believe that He is the truth. In a world without zeal for Christ, where people are either too busy, too comfortable or full of procrastination. We need to strive to be the salt of this earth. To continue to pray and intercede for these people, to not only flavor this earth but to preserve it (the jobs of salt).

See Daily bread for some cool insight on this chapter.

Great example of how we all should strive to live our lives on fire for the LORD. So many people in this world are searching for something. Something to fill a void in their life. Christ will fill that void but it’s up to us to share the Gospel with them. I think many of these Samaritans were looking for something to fill a void in their life and when they heard about Jesus and the miracles he was performing their hearts were opened and as they listened to the teachings of Jesus they believed in Him as the Messiah and Son of God. Great chapter to read.
