Nibble of Bread : John 2:24-25

July 31, 2012

Trust in God alone.

John 2:24-25

But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew human nature. No one needed to tell him what mankind is really like.

If you read 1:2-3 you see that Jesus existed from the beginning of time, He also created everything we know and see. Therefore He knows every detail about man, our good, our bad and our ugly. This verse says he doesn’t trust man due to our nature. The point I want to hit home, is that we are supposed to be the same way. We are not supposed to put our trust in man above God. God alone is supposed to be the source and receiver of our supreme trust. God never fails. Man does. When we trust man over God, we are setting ourselves up for failure, then with human nature we tend to blame God. Work to trust God above all, failure will only happen when our eyes come off Him.

God will never fail us, leave us, let us down, or betray us. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Man on the other hand has a sinful nature and if we put our hope, faith, and trust in man we will eventually be left with heartbreak. I love chapter 2 and the righteous anger (if we can even call it anger) Christ showed in the Temple when he drove out the money changers.

    • Amen, amen! I really loved that part too. For me I want to learn more of God, and the ways of Christ so that when things are wrong I know when to just buckaloose like Jesus did in that temple. It would be cool to learn how to have that kind of balance. Loving for Christ, but also slapping sense into people for Christ also! Must be the linebacker thing in us mike…?
