Nibble of Bread : Hebrews 5:14

July 8, 2012

Hebrews 5:14

Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

For me the key to this verse was “who through training” or in the King James says, “have their senses exercised”. The Christian walk is a constant process for us, but in order to grow closer to God we have to “train” or “exercise” our spirit. The Bible says the spirit is willing but the body is weak (Matt. 26:41). We need to develop spiritual strength by choosing the ways and actions that align with the Word of God. The Bible refers to this as purifying, or attaining Holiness. No one is perfect therefore we will always have something to work on. So as we read the Word, we then need to apply the Word in our lives. This process develops our maturity as Christians.

* See Daily Bread: Hebrews 5 for foundation of this verse.
