Notes from todays reading.

Hosea 2-5:

These four chapters have a lot of deeper messages that I don’t fully understand. But what I did understand is that no matter what we do, no matter how good we think we may be doing. If God is not first we are going down a dark path. For the most part our society doesn’t worship actual idols. But many times our obsessions or hobbies, even desires lead us so deep into   self-indulgence. We don’t realize how far we have drifted until God sends trouble our way. According to these chapters, God sent them trouble or allowed trouble to happen to wake them (the Israelites) up. For His people to realize that they need a real God, not an idol. When trouble greater than us comes our way who do we have to turn to? Our hobbies and obsessions or the one true God?

Hebrews 2:

Verses 2-3 is pretty heavy. Just to think back of all the stories through the Bible were disobedience, selfishness, greed and everything else along these lines were punished. These punishments have only been seen through the physical realm. These are scary, but the punishments of the spiritual realm are terrifying because they are eternal. If God punished His chosen people for falling away from Him, doesnt that make us just as guilty if we fall away? We must make sure as verse 1 warns us to be very careful, pay close attention or keep a firm grip on the truth so that we do not fall away.

Honestly, people who do not believe in God and eternal salvation through Jesus amaze me. Personally if I did not know the truth of life, death and eternity I would be terrified of death. But maybe thats what God placed in me in order that I would search for the truth and find it in Jesus. Thats why verses 14-15 give me such comfort, because I couldn’t imagine living each day without knowing what death would bring me.
