Notes from todays reading.

In progress…

Isaiah 1:

Verses 11-17 were pretty hard-core and interesting to me. It’s pretty obvious how God feels about what I like to call “faking the funk”. These verses make it very clear that living a life void of repentance, involving half-hearted devotion will lead to a life of following religious practices. Not only is God aware of this tragedy, but it “disgusts” Him, or other versions refer to it as an “abomination”. As scripture calls us to, we must be very honest with ourselves and how we view our walk with God. This form of dishonesty with ourselves is warranted for a first class ticket to eternal judgement.

But, God is so Good. Verses 18-19 show us that it is not hopeless. There is a way to avoid this judgement. God desires us to avoid this judgement, but it is up to us. We must be obedient. Obedient to the full Word of God, not just the commands we choose to be obedient too. But the whole package. I know this can bring up many different arguments of justification, and reasoning. Such as the law is dead, such as where sin abounds grace abounds more, and Jesus died so that we are forgiven; and so on. On the contrary other verses command us to be living sacrifices, blameless in all our ways.  All of this is true, but that is where honesty with ourselves is key. The former verses are for mistakes, slip-ups, and stumbles for us mere mortals. I just listened to a sermon last night in the “Radical” series that says when Christ lives in us it is obvious by our heart, our actions, and our giving. Trying to justify wrong is not a reflection of Christ-Like behavior. All our actions should be to bring God glory, if not what are the real motives?

Isaiah 2:

Verses 2-4 describe the “last days”. The last days are termed when describing the period of Christs return to reign over all the earth. Reading these verses are so comforting, exciting and give me such hope. Think of a life full of worship towards the eternal God. A life of learning God’s ways, and walking in His paths. A world with no disputes, no fighting or wars. These are the results of God ruling the earth with supreme love, fairness, justice and loyalty. We must remember these characteristics and live them within our own circles of influence. By living this way we can bring the same peace and comfort within our own chaos of this life that will overflow to everyone around us.

Verses 11-21. Do you realize the destruction God has planned for the earth in those “last days”? I was really trying to imagine these things happening as I was reading them. My worldly mindset was getting terrified, this is destruction and carnage far greater than any earthquake, hurricane or any other natural disaster we have ever seen or imagined. But to have the peace of God, the peace that passes all understanding is our only way from terror. The Bible refers to this day as a dreadful day. It truly will be dreadful for millions. But with Christ reigning in our hearts we can continue His work until our last breath.

Isaiah 3:

The book of Isaiah is going to continue with tons of prophetic messages. I pray that God will give us clarity, wisdom and knowledge in learning everything we need from this great book.

Titus 3:
