Notes from todays reading.

In Progress…

Joel 1:

The summary for the content of this book basically says that God used the prophet Joel to relay a message to the people that God’s day of judgement is coming. And for those that have forsaken Him, His wrath will also follow.

This chapter makes me think of people who idolize or place worldly things above God. Sometimes God allows it all to be stripped away in the hopes of awakening the people. Leading the people’s hearts to true repentance and re-align their hopes and focus on the only thing that truly matters. because without God we have nothing. Through God we have everything.

Joel 2:

Verses 1-11 should be read with the thought of this becoming a reality in some way. This passage is a prophetic piece that God illustrated to Joel to lead the people back to Him, and also to warn future generations (us included) of the coming day of wrath and judgement.

My study Bible says this prophecy not only illustrates God’s great judgement to come but it could come in the form of another plague type attack metaphorically used as locusts. It also could be an actual foreign military invasion from the north (which is also backed by several other prophetic pieces throughout the Bible). The end of verse 11 is very interesting, describing this day as awesome or great and terrible. For God’s people this is a great day, especially if we are all educated of the actual events and our lives are pleasing in His sight. For those lacking these areas, this will be a terrifying day.

Verses 18-27 describe how repentance leads to overflowing blessings poured out on God’s people. I believe specifically speaking these promises become a reality when God restores Israel to its greatness in the days to come.

Verses 28-29 is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that fulfills on on-going prophecy of believers receiving the Holy Spirit.

Verses 30-31 speak of actual events that will take place during the years of tribulation.

The first sentence of Verse 32 is beautiful!

Joel 3:

I hope and pray that all of you that read this chapter will be blown away like I was. This chapter is so heavy, scary and exciting. You know God’s word always comes to pass. Every word God has spoken has either come to fulfillment or will. This chapter speaks of a time that has not yet come. But lets just be clear as Isaiah 40:8 says: The grass withers and the flowers fade but the Word of God stands forever. So please understand the reality of this prophecy.

Verse 21 is so cool. Thats God’s grace being spoken of before the arrival of our Lord Jesus!

We will be judged by God Almighty someday. Every deed, every word and our thoughts and actions will be judged by God. We must do our best to live lives of righteousness, self-control, gentleness and love. We must try our best to love our neighbor as ourselves. God speaks of judging nations that were unjust to His people. We will also be judged if we are unjust to others. God Bless all of you and may this message give you strength, hope and joy in the Lord!!

2 Timothy 1:

How many times have you deserved something and received it?

It feels good to receive when you deserve.

What about when you don’t deserve anything, but you receive something anyways?

Now this is the ultimate.

The problem is sometimes it can be taken for granted. Verse 9 says that God saved us and called us, not because we deserved it, but because His grace is to great. We have to remember that as human beings we are born into this world as sinners. Therefore according to God’s holiness, on our own merit and accomplishments it is impossible of becoming united with God. God is perfect and holy in all His ways and in all that He is. So for us as sinners it was spiritually impossible to become one with our creator.

But God changed all that through His plan, through His grace through Jesus Christ the Messiah! Now even though we don’t deserve life, we don’t deserve eternal happiness, salvation and joy we can find it through Our Lord Jesus.

Lets find the overwhelming gratification that we have for what God and His son Jesus have done for us. Place it at the front of your heart and live with the Joy and Peace that only comes from God. Always remember that we don’t deserve salvation, but God has still granted it. Praise God Almighty for His overwhelming grace, mercy and Love!!
