Notes from todays reading.

1 Kings 13:

What a powerful story of disobedience. God really spoke to my heart with this passage. After reading through verses 8-10 I was really proud of this man of God, because he had held firm and stood his ground in obedience. But upon reading the rest of this chapter I was very disappointed in him.

This example is so true in our lives today. The Word of God gets clearer and clearer the more we read, meditate and study it. We need to always make sure that we never waver on God’s Word. Never try to justify or stretch the truth of what God’s Word really says. Whats interesting about this is that the man was able to be obedient to God in the face of the King. You would think that King would be harder to say no to. But the man of God really had good intentions and was therefore looking for the obvious trap. But the devil is relentless, the man of God obviously got complacent and comfortable after his victory of obedience. So the devil capitalized on that. He attacked this man from an angle that seemed to have some truth to it. But what we have to remember is that we should never waver on anything that directly contradicts the Word of God, and we must never let our guard down.

1 Kings 14:

Our leaders and rulers will be held to a higher standard of judgement. We must pray daily for them, in the hopes that God will soften their hearts. Just as God listened to the prayers of the man of God in chapter 13:6. God listened even though King Jeroboam was wicked God still answered the prayer to heal the Kings hand. There is power in prayer, and God truly wants to love all.

2 Chronicles 12:

It’s amazing how faithful and forgiving God is. When the rulers and the king humbled themselves, called pulled back the troops. In other words, God could have still completely destroyed everyone. But because God is Love, because God is full of Love and doesn’t know how not to Love, he refrained from complete destruction. Chew on this thought for a bit; how come we as mere human beings have a hard time forgiving others for simple things, when God can forgive men with very defiant, sinful and wicked ways?

Philippians 3:

Verses 7-8 are really amazing. Paul is basically saying he had it all, he came from the social status that mattered most at that time. He had all the worldly credentials that would have taken him to the top of any ladder he wanted to climb. Yet when compared to Jesus it was garbage. It’s always nice when people can speak from experience because they have been down that road before. And here Paul is doing just that, he is giving the illustration of his life as being the ultimate example of a religious pillar in the worlds eyes at that time. But yet to know Christ has infinite value. It’s infinite because we still have no clue how powerful Jesus really is. And how blessed we are to be chosen to live a life dedicated to Him! There is no comparison between any worldly achievement or status that can even come close to measuring up to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
