Notes from todays reading.

Ecclesiastes 1:

Ecclesiastes is an amazing head spinning book. Get ready to be shook to the core. King Solomon the wisest man to ever live had it all, earned it all and lived it all. He wrote this book in the later years of his life after his rapid descent away from God. His worldly pursuits in his later years left Him with a whole new perspective on life. This perspective is shared with us in this book.

This chapter sounds like a grouchy, discontented writer. But what we have to understand is that Solomon lived right with God in his early years but since his fame and fortune got the best of him, he turned his back on God. Every worldly pleasure was sought after, and nothing fulfilled him making these efforts “meaningless”.

Ecclesiastes 2:

In worldly eyes, the first 11 verses of this chapter give a pretty impressively detailed resume of King Solomons accomplishments. But in verses 24-26 he finishes with basically saying that anything apart from God is meaningless. How many people do you know that have the success of the world? Or have everything and more in the eyes of the world? King Solomon had significantly more than any ten people we know. So its safe to say he has had the life to back up his claim. Being strong men of God we need to spread the good news of Christ. Hopefully we can lead people out of their meaningless pursuits and into a heavenly, eternal pursuit that has more meaning in one day than an entire Godless lifetime!

Ecclesiastes 3:

Dont let this type of cynical writing wear you down. It can be disheartening to read this type of talk. But the writing is designed to be not only truthful, but to act as a wake up call to everyone reading it.

Verse 11 of this verse is the most important verse of this whole book in my opinion. This verse is the truth of why every human being has a desire for something greater. Whether christian, buddhist, muslim, or atheist. All have a desire and a longing, or even a curiosity for something greater. What Godless people don’t see is that this desire was planted in our hearts, with the hope that we would seek the almighty creator and father, through His son Jesus Christ!

Psalm 45:

Not sure what or who this entire Psalm is referring to. My study Bible says that verses 6-7 find fulfillment in Jesus. Jesus loved righteousness but hated wickedness. Becuase of this God has appointed him the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

If anyone else has further insight to this Psalm…hook it up!

Ephesians 2:

Wow! God’s grace is amazing, it has no limits, no restrictions, has absolutely no partiality. Verse 5 means we did not deserve anything. We did  not deserve life, especially through the death of God’s one and Only Son!

Verse 9 is very important to remember. sometimes spiritual pride can come in and cloud judgement. Nothing we can ever do or say will make us great. God’s love is the reason we have the greatest gift ever imaginable. It is the only gift that costs nothing, but you gain everything!

Verse 20 spoke to me as Father, Son and Spirit are one with believers. They not only created us, but they live in us. Our walks are built upon the foundation of what the Godly men of old did and accomplished. Because of their sacrifice we get the reward. They saw God physically in pillars of fire, in visions and dreams. But we have Him living within our hearts guiding us along the way. He is always there!

Praise God!
