Devotion : Endure like Paul

May 21, 2012

Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 2 Corinthians 11:25 NLT

These are the words of the apostle Paul. This man is the biggest human reason that christianity is what it is today. I just wanted to bring some light to endurance through the illustration of the Apostle Paul. I encourage you guys to read this entire passage Paul lists a few more of his trials and struggles in verses 23-33.

There are many promises in the Bible that God has declared for us, many of them are great. Some of them will be not so great if we go down the wrong path. But never has there been a promise from God that says living a christian life will be easy. I dont know all the reasons why Paul had it so bad, but i do know this. Because of His weaknesses, trials and struggles we can find strength. Paul displays the epitome of endurance throughout his lifetime in Christ.

The travels of Paul span about 25 years give or take a few, where he traveled in the area of 10,000 miles. These miles were by land and sea, by foot, camel, mule or unmotorized vessel. At the time neither of them were too safe. By land there were the fear of robbers, long hard miles, not knowing we’re your next drink of water may be and the dry food you are carrying is all you have to eat for the entire journey. By sea, there were pirates, no navigational equipment and boats weren’t as solid and reliable as they are today. But Paul endured.

He says in Romans 1:1 that he is a slave to Jesus Christ. By calling himself a slave he is in full submission to the will of His master; Jesus Christ. Paul’s sufferings were great, but he endured to the end. Because of this, the glory he brought the Father was immeasurable. How much glory are you bringing God right now in your life? Have you been enduring through some things in your life, and you don’t know how much more you can handle?

Just know that the more we suffer and boast in Christ through our sufferings, the more glory we bring to Christ. Find strength in the sufferings of Paul, none of you will ever be stoned, or Whipped the old roman way. So don’t worry, whatever hardship you may be facing is only temporary. Seek God and he will give you the endurance to finish this race strong!!
