Devotion : Do you Have the Patience?

May 14, 2012

Endurance Series: Devotion 1

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 NLT

This single verse has so much depth and purpose, but for the sake of not getting in over my head I just want to focus on primarily two words; patiently, and endure. When you become a believer in Christ and decide to follow God your beginning a lifetime pursuit of purifying. Usually when you decide to do something there is a definite beginning and an end, then you move on to the next task. Well the Christian walk is a little different. There is a definite beginning and an end, but at the end of this race it’s really the end…as in we die.

The Christian walk is filled with obstacles, challenges and trials. Without getting to deep in all of those we will keep it surface level and just say that by overcoming all of those things we become stronger, bolder and better Christians to live a more purpose driven life. But what we have to understand is that we will never have it all figured out. On this side of eternity we will never be perfect, we will never have all the answers and we should never feel like we’ve made it. We never know when our last breath will be on this earth. For some of us obviously sooner than others. But some of us have a long ways to go. Well how do you stay faithful to God for another 70 years? The simple answer lyes in the verse above with two words; patiently and endure.

Heres a couple of definitions:

the ability to remain calm and not become annoyed when dealing with problems or with difficult people

the ability to give attention to something for a long time without becoming bored or losing interest

to undergo (as a hardship) especially without giving in

This translation uses these two words, and I really liked them for this situation. In order to live the life God is calling us to have, we must have endurance. Long distance runners have to be able to overcome mental and physical challenges the entire race. Obviously the more we train and prepare our bodies for it, the easier it becomes to “endure”. What can help us endure? Patience! I really love the definitions above of patience, these things will happen in our walk and we need patience in order to have endurance. Without patience endurance will not be possible, well maybe but it sure becomes a lot more difficult.

So know that we are in for a long haul. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. But like they say; with great effort, comes great fulfillment. Learn to endure through trials and temptations. Learn to increase your patience, to increase your ability to remain calm. Focusing on the future and hope that we have in our Lord Jesus Christ.

God Bless.

Good one… patience and endurance is the key. Having the patience to deal with difficult times and people for that matter… in addition to that endurance comes when we overcome difficult situations and are true tests to our faith. I’m beginning to understand this more as I continue to walk with the LORD. Theres always going to be something that pops up in my walk with Him. Amen for your postings bro!

    • We definitely need the Holy Spirit to help us be patient and the more we apply ourselves to patience then we’re able to take on stuff that requires more patience. Sometimes I jump in the longer line at sack&save or KTA to practice.

      Aloha braddah!

  3. Amen brotha! Constantly God refines us, reshapes us and molds us into the final masterpiece. It’s so cool how the more we grow, the more God reveals by opening our eyes a little more through each trial!

    Thanks for your reply!

    Blessing and Love Kaaina

    • Amen brotha! We will be prayin!

Maybe train more, maybe purify more, maybe take more baby steps of obedience. Listen to the Holy Spirit, He will guide you into all truth and righteousness.

    • braddah jacob sound like you need Jesus for make “you” one loco-moco check this out in matthew 11:28-30, then Jesus said “come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my ‘YOKE’ upon you. Let me teach you, because I am gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” You are a pillar of strength in Christ, you are victorious in christ, an overcomer in Christ, more than a conquerer in Christ. Peace & and Love braddah Jacob. From Chad
