Notes from todays reading.

2 Samuel 10:

There are some things going on in this chapter that deal with the culture and time of this era deeper than my understanding. If anyone has greater insight to this please share.

One thing that came to my heart as I was writing this is that David did not seek God in these attacks. Although he still was successful, I feel a prompting by the Holy Spirit to say that we cant get too comfortable when our walk with God becomes very successful. The reason being is that we begin to make decisions without seeking him, but because of God’s overwhelming presence in our lives, this overflow can be enough to conquer. God is so big and so powerful, his overflow is greater than any army. Now when success happens without seeking God, we can get comfortable and complacent in our position with him. It becomes easier to slip our mind to seek him. This can be a very dangerous slide away from God.

1 Chronicles 20:

Here is another chapter of death and destruction by the Israelites led by King David and his men. However there are two things we need to notice:

– the first is that in all of our reading so far, every time a man is doing Gods will it says that he inquired of the Lord in some way. In the last few chapters we have not seen that.

– second, at the end of verse 1 it says that David stayed behind in Jerusalem. This is a very important piece of this story. There has been a slide away from seeking God. Now King David is staying behind at a time when Kings normally do not. This may seem small, but it is a big deal. When we stray from where we are supposed to be, dangers lurking in the shadows can trip us up as we will see.

Psalm 20:

I love verse 7. Powerful verse that really proclaims a Godly mindset vs. an earthly mindset. What do you boast in? Your wealth? Your success? Your education? In the eyes of God, none of that matters if your heart is not for him. If you’re not using it for Him, you are using it for yourself which has a lifespan of 80 years. But when you use it for Christ the lifespan is eternal!

Matthew 22:

There are several nuggets within this chapter but the first and most important to start with is verses 37-40. Its so amazing how God is, and has designed the of the Kingdom of God. Think of any situation you face. The answer to that solution is right here in these verses. If your actions are first based upon your undivided love for God which would lead you into an undivided love for your neighbor your actions will result in love. I hope you can grasp this, this is key. Insert your troubled situation into this equation and see what comes out the other end. I know the neighbor part is difficult, but when conquered it is amazing.

Verses 41-46, Jesus gives an example that when we have discussions with people we are to base are discussions, or our points based and backed by the Word of God. Do not base it off of your own emotion, understanding or thoughts. Jesus silenced his critics every time, because he spoke the Word of God, the everlasting truth. Our words have power and authority when the Word of God is behind it. Praise God!

God Bless.

I had a thought when I read 2sam10. I wondered if God caused hanun to humiliate davids men so that it would prompt david to defeat the arameans and ammonites and everyone else who tried to help them. I’m not sure this is beyond my understanding too. I also recognize that david did not seek God during this time. How cool is Jesus in Mt 22:34-46 an “expert” pharisee tested Him and He answered rightly so Jesus gave them(pharisees) a pop quiz and they where speechless. that was funny.

    • My thoughts on that is based off of previous readings throughout the Old Testament. It seems when God wants something done he would speak to those individuals through prophets or dreams, etc. Also when God wanted people’s hearts to be hard, the bible would say so. For example in Exodus The text stated several times that God hardened Pharaoh’s heart. So based off of those things I don’t think so.
Yes Jesus is so awesome. Its an illustration of how Gods Word is far more powerful than any expert in any field.

Lord, we lift up Healani. Please cleanse her and heal her of this cough, make her strong and dont allow anyone else to be affected by this cold. In Jesus name Amen!!!
