Devotion : Faithfulness in His Words

April 30, 2012
Faithfulness Series: Devotion 3.
“The day is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah…” Jeremiah 31:31 NLT
Are you a man known for your word? When you say something do you always uphold that statement or promise? God’s promises are endless throughout the Word of God. But here in this verse he gives us a promise that is very familiar to a lot of us. What this promise is saying is that the current covenant that God’s people currently live by will be taken over by a new covenant. To keep it simple the Old Testament or the Law, will be replaced by the new testament which is a relationship with God through his son, Jesus. This promise was made somewhere between 627 and 586 B.C. Way before the new covenant actually came on the scene. In case we already dont, what we need to understand first is that God had everything all planned out before the beginning of time. Things did change along the way. Men chose evil over good, idols over God, etc. But God still kept his promise.
How many millions of people in the Old Testament alone had failed God? Being that God is all-knowing, wouldn’t he know that history would continue to repeat itself? Of course he did. But God is Faithful. God made a promise to provide a new covenant. He designed the Old Covenant for that certain time frame with those people. But the new covenant was to be better. Usually when something new replaces something old, there are improvements. Well God made major improvements to His covenant. But He did not have to. He did not have to offer the new covenant knowing most people would mock it. Or discredit it. But God is Faithful.
God will never waver on His word. When we lean on His word and we align our lives around it, it will come to pass. Why? Because God is Faithful. When Gods power was doubted for 40 years by his own people in the Desert, he was Faithful. When His own people did not want to follow Him, but wanted a King, he was Faithful. When His son was crucified for saying he was the Son of God, He was Faithful.
Never doubt the faithfulness of God. Our problem is we are too accustomed to the faithfulness of man. Therefore our measuring stick is too short. We dont know how to measure Gods faithfulness because we think we have nothing to compare it too in our lives. But because of Gods faithfulness he has given us the Word of God, which has the truth and backing; or the measuring stick we need to measure God’s true faithfulness.
Trust in God’s Word, and His Faithfulness; they will never fail you.

Praise God for his new covenant! Thank you for Jesus Lord, that we may be forgiven by his blood. As I walk with Christ I try very hard to be a man of my word, but I find myself wavering from time to time. Mahalo for the Great post!
