In the Beginning…
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
My desire to understand the first few chapters in the Bible have greatly increased. My eyes have been opened recently to the various different opinions and thoughts of what these first few chapters in God’s Word says. Im reading a book called ‘Already Gone; Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it’ by Ken Ham, Britt Beemer, and Todd Hillard.
So far the direction of the book has steered towards the doubting of God’s Word by the younger generation. These men have done an amazing amount of research to find out why. In short, what their studies have found is that the Bible has been made out to be a book of cool stories rather than the Infallible, God-Breathed Word of Truth.
So far in the book a lot of the research has been pointing to doubting the first few chapters in the Bible. Basically the chapters on God’s amazing creation of this world as we know it. The problem with this is, once you doubt the truth and accuracy in any part of the Bible, you now start an avalanche of disbelief in the Bible as a whole.
I have just been staring at the first three words of the above verse. ‘In the beginning’; It’s so amazing to me because I really cannot fathom a beginning. In fact Im sure it’s safe to say that most of us cannot fathom a true beginning because we were never there. But these three words make it very clear to me that before anything was, God was. Before the thought of a cell was even thought of by a human scientist, God was. Before two hydrogen atoms, bonded with an oxygen atom, God was.
To the best of my knowledge, and I say this out of severe ignorance to the knowledge of the world. But I do believe this with all my heart: there is nothing, no person, no group, no religion, no culture, and no other book that can make this claim: ‘In the beginning’. The true beginning, the beginnings of beginnings.
Our God is known as the Great I AM. He is the creator of all things. Before anything was He Was; Father, Son and Spirit.
Join me as I continue to study God’s Word and learn about the truth’s of His Creation.
(Genesis 1:2 coming soon)
I love how this first verse of the Bible is so simple and to the point. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, period. There is no room for interpretation. There is no ambiguity in this verse. It’s a simple, straightforward statement which you will either choose to believe or not.
Yeah so true Mike. It just sets the tone right there doesnt it!?
If a person truly understands the implications of Genesis 1:1 and believes it then they should have no trouble believing the remainder of the Bible. Any other event or miracle pales in comparison with the magnitude of what God did in the beginning. That is with one exception — when He redeemed believers through the death, burial, and resurrection of His own Son, Jesus.
Amen, amen my friend!! I totally agree with all of that!
